D19 marijuana groves?

good morning everyone,

I'm making this post due to safety concerns with hunting in D19. A friend of my brother picked up some illegal marijuana grove activity on his game camera in the mountains overlooking Lake Hemet. They were carrying duffle bags full of marijuana and armed with ARs... I have been planning to hunt this area but due to concerns about running into one of these bad el hombres, I've been second thinking it.. anyone else have an expirience like this in D19?? Thank you

It is in every public land forested deer zone in CA. I believe they tend to harvest in September/October which means they could be gone by rifle deer season.

Either way it is sketchy.

D-16 can have the same issues on Palomar.....Haven't heard of any problems in a long time.

A hidden problem with these grows is the use of pesticides. Many of them used banned substances such as Carbofuran and Furadan. Both of witch are very potent organophosphates. It can be applied to the plants directly, poured at the base of them, or batched mixed into the water supply of the plants. If you stumble into a grow don't cut the water lines and watch for improvised sumps holding water. The Forrest Service has had a few officers get sick from contact with the treated water. One of those employees had be medically retired. If the plants have what appears to be a pink powder on the leafs they have recently been treated. Another sign one of the chemicals is being used is any bottle containing a liquid that looks like pepto bismol as this is the concentrated form.

If you contact the plants, water, or material and start to develop excessive salivation, lacrimation (runny eyes/ tears), urination, defecation (diarrhea) , emesis (vomiting), or miosis (pin point pupils) you need to get some help. These are signs of organophosphate poisoning.

I'm just guessing growing a plant or two in your yard is a little different than growing a grove in the NF.....Plus, isn't federal law still in effect about dope use.

I was walking to the appliance section of Lowes and passed by the lighting section. They had an end-cab display showing four little plants growing in built-in pockets on top of a stainless steel end table in someone's living room. The display was for their indoor grow lights. It made me think that all th millenials will start to have pot growing in their living rooms as a decoration.
The only real thing which scares me about the law change is that I've seen many people smoking it in the passenger seat of their best friend's car.

" el bad hombre " looks like. I wouldnt want to be caught on some ones trail camera with my AR and be mistaken for a bad hombre LOL

I work as a correctional dep for the sheriff dept and have talked to a lot of "bad hombres" who pull the same stunts but get caught.. they're nothing but dumb pack mules who carry out jobs for people they've never met... even though I'm a little concerned, due to my job, I'm also a little biased because I know most these dudes (at least the ones I've talked to) are harmless little old men or dumb "wannabe" gangster kids .. Or.. maybe.. I'm only talking to the ones who were caught ?

Ya I hear you. Be cool to see the pic if you can get it. I hunt and scout close to the border so I have run into some bad hombres over the years. I wouldnt take any chances I beleive it was a 17yr old kid who pulled a revolver on an agent a few years back. Kid was already on his knees and pulled and shot behind him fatally hitting the agent. Most people I run into are just trying to cross illegally. Its the ones with packs and binoculars I see out there sometimes that I worry about. I usually just call in the coordinates and watch the helo come in and sometimes it gets the deer moving. Lol

I've been hunting d19 for years or helping others attempt to fill there tags I have come acrossed a lot of old grows and a couple active grow sites it's not uncommon. I'm sure last years wet winter and are mild summers been great for them this year. Last year I found myself scouting a month before archery season in San Diego stumbled along the edge of the biggest grow I've seen I also had guys on trail cam I suspected were going into the grow to tend To it I set the trail cam in a area I hunted previous years just run up the hill after work set cam and bailed out didn't have much daylight or time to look around when I returned I noticed smaller boot tracks going towards the camera after some exploring around found my camera was just outside of the grow area on national forest the grow was so big it went into private property as well.

could be the grow belonged to the people who have the private property one never knows, in any case hope you reported it. by the way the most one can grow at home is six plants for personal use..
