What does it matter how many twists are in the barrel?...Does it really make a difference at say 300 yd or less...Most hunting distances...What does a Ruger American 6.5 come with?
@ilovesprig the twist matters a LOT. So there is a trend in both lead and copper projectiles, Heavy and long is the new normal. This gets compounded by copper monolithic bullets that are extra long for weight. The length is the killer when it comes to twist. example the 83gr hammers require at least 1-7 twist to stabilize. Shoot them in a 1-9 and you could be flipping end over. Even if they do not flip the eccentric rotation wrecks your BC as the bullet grabs air. not a good combo for accuracy. To shoot 70gr 22cal hammers you need 1-8 twist.
now with lead because they are not as long for weight you can shoot 90gr bullets with a 1-8. over twisting to 1-7 is not problematic and would be a better choice if you need to be shooting copper and lead in a heavy projectile 22cal rifle.
