SCH OUTDOORS

First in a long time

Haven’t been gone to hunt deer in 15 years. Now I’m retired here I have a little time to get out. Been out a few times with bow but never saw anything.
Saw this guy following a doe last Friday but couldn't get close enough to see if it was something I wanted or save for my son. It’s public that is foot traffic only. So not many will go into the deep parts of this broken country. I knew this would be my last chance to hunt with being on call over the weekend so I gave it one last go.
I glassed him up in private well over 1/4 mile away. He was moving to the deep wooded draw I was sitting at the mouth of. I glasses two doe going the opposite direction and lost sight of him.
I figured I had nothing to lose so got out my antlers and started rattling. On the third sequence I look up and see a deer at full lope running at me. He cut the distance quickly I try to get gun on him as he’s about 200 but he’s moving. I fumbled to get my ear pro on. Now he’s on my side of the fence and coming just under 100. Finally say the hell with sticks because he’s too close anyways, dial the scope down to 3 power, now he’s under 50 and just on other side of some junipers. I had to yell at him to get him to stop! BANG, wobble and he runs back the way he came about 40yds stops, i square up on him again and he drops.
Again, not a giant but fun and exciting just wish my son pulled the trigger.
