Went out to SE AZ last weekend with some friends. Never hunted Javelina before. Lucked out and got this good boar an hour and a half into opening morning. Ranged him at 28 yrds. Luckily was able to hide from the little one at 11 yrds undetected. Had that little Yucca cactus behind me there for a tiny bit of cover. Origanlly spotted them from 789 yrds and had an hour long epic stalk down one canyon and came in on the guys from the bottom, then up around and snuck in from the top. Had perfect wind the whole time... 28 yrd double lunger and this thing was dead right where I shot him! Awesome time, with some awesome people.. 5 of us on the trip and 3 of us hunting... Good times!

Congrats. What unit were you hunting in? I am going down to unit 33 for 4 days next week. It will be my first Javelina hunt as well I hope we can find some.

We were in unit 30a. Just out of Willcox. My buddy has a private property connection. We had 57k acres to ourselves. Lots of Javelina and mule deer all over.. Good luck out there. I learned, just move slow and quiet.. Keep the wind right and you can get right in on em... They're definitely not as keen as deer or elk to movements. Under a hundred yards start moving slow.. Under 70 just get low and creep.. Like I said, I got within 11 yrds of one almost in the complete open.. If I can do it, you can! Let us know how ya do.

Also... Just like around here, make sure to bring your glass and a pod of some kind to hold them... We spent hours behind them from a hill or Mt top. We spotted pigs at least 1.5 miles out.. Little black moving dots on the golden hillsides..

congrats , I have always wanted to kill one. One day soon I will get a chance to kill one.

Thanks for the kind words... I will say they do stink, but not as bad as I thought they would. I've smelled way worse rutted up deer and elk for sure!

I have arrowed 5 of those stinky critters and I have to say it is one of the funniest animals to hunt with a bow. Great job.

Steve that Javelina at your super bowl party was good!

There's no much that won't taste good when slow cooked
