Does anyone know where in the california penal code it says that it is legal to openly carry a loaded handgun while hunting? I cant find it anywhere

Regular unloaded carrying of a firearm is totally illegal now as of the last year. All firearms must be cased and unloaded at all times (in public) except while hunting or target shooting.

what ? from my under standing while hunting it is legal.
I will help review the laws when I get a chance

Please consult with a lawyer when reviewing laws....

I heard this from someplace....

This could be true or false....

ok on with this post. Laws typically say what you cant do not what you can. You can carry a sidearm while rifle hunting or bird hunting. You can not have a gun on you while Bow hunting per DFG rules. The law is pretty clear on open carry right now, not a great idea.

http://www.oclaw.org/research/code/ca/PEN/12027./content.html
section (g) is the part that pertains to having a gun on you while hunting or fishing.

here is the open carry law.

For you guys that have had your heads under rocks the CCW requirements have changed.THANKS TO Peruta v. County of San Diego. Depending on your county you can now get a concealed weapons permit with the good cause of ( self defense ) if your county is not doing it already it will be shortly. Orange County is leading the way on this and has processed a Ton of them with this cause...

Here's the logical reason open carry is ok while hunting. If you can carry your rifle loaded while hunting (on foot or horseback) then why not a pistol. You can legally take any large or small game with a side arm as well as rifle. However I was told one could not carry a pistol while hunting bird since bird must not be taken with a bullet only shot. This also applets to shot gun only county areas.

Also look up cal penal code 12027 section (G) specifically talks about hunting and fishing This actually applys to ccw but still good to know. I have thi printed out and in my hunting regs book and my wallet. Might keep me out of trouble.

If all else fail you are always hunting coyote with your side arm 45, 44, 357 ect....

That is why I stated "while hunting or target shooting". If you guys remember when all the folks (sofa commandos) were carrying their unloaded rifles and pistols into starbucks coffee shops and random stores and so on…… It was legal to carry an unloaded one before all that was going on but they banned even unloaded open carry in public places. I guess while hunting it may be different still!

Thanks guys. Ive looked an found that the #'s of those laws have changed for reason.... According to the california doj bureau of fire arms those laws are now penal code 25400 and 25640 http://oag.ca.gov/firearms..... http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/pdf/cfl2013.pdf? ...

You'll probably never see the cat that kills you. ;D

If everyone is seeing all these kitties, why haven't they chewed up more people locally?

Agreed

There not after people. Plus I eat like crap so I taste pretty bad

A guy camping just outa town was attacked by a mountain lion just last year, right off the 74 hwy in Romoland. Was all over the local news, So it happens.

The cats are eating well up here, No water means easy picking at the water holes the poor deer....

I was told there a bunch of CCW applications just sitting up at the main sheriff office and that's probably all that will happen with most of them. They will just be collecting dust!
