Anyone ever mess around with heavier arrow builds??

I've been reading about High FOC arrows and how heavier arrows maximize penetration vs lighter faster arrows that loose more kinetic energy especially at further distances.

I picked up some 250 gr tips and want to mess around with different arrow setups. Going to run them on my 340 spine but might drop down to a 300 spine and maybe even some tapered arrows.

100gr tip next to my new 250 gr

Heavy thin arrows and a wide head for better penatration.
Look up this guy and his 12 points to penatration Ed Ashby.

That's the guy I heard talking about high FOC..dude knows his stuff. Considering getting some of his 250gr single bevel broadheads

You can buy arrows were you can add an incert that can be as much as 90 grains titanium or as little as 20 grains. Im running Victory TKO in a 400 spline. Helico 3 fleched 3"Bohning x vanes a full 3° Arrows cut at 27 3/4". A 100 grain. Grim Reaper fixed mico Pro hades and A lighted nock weighing 11 grains total weight of my arrows 432 grains total. Have no issues arrows fly true. Being sure to spline. Your arrows i even bare shaft tune my arrows... For the best performing arrows i can make...... Good luck with your build

Nice! I've been looking at some Victory arrows. Victory partnered up with Grizzlystik to come out with some thin diameter tapered arrows. Looking to get up around 650 gr total weight with this build.

Haven't messed with bare shaft tuning yet but want to start with this next set.

One thing to remember draw weight.if you aren't draw 70lbs or better your arrow will drop like a rock the farther out you shot. My arrows drops over 40" out to 80yds to 90yds.i shot an Antilope at 62 yds. Put my last pin on its back at the base of it neck. Ran 70 yds and crashed in a draw.

Digging your setup. I'm at 65 lbs right now but I'll consider bumping up.. Never practiced passed 60 yds but I know I have to reset my pins with the heavier arrows but I didn't realize it drops that much at 90yds. What type of sight do you run?

Ive got 2 setups Trophy Ridge React Pro 5 pin sight with react technology. And on the other bow. Mathews Halon 6... Im trying to learn to use a Black Gold Pro custom 3 pin sight with the 3rd pins in a rover on a slider. First pin in grn. Pin size .019 2nd pin yellow again .019 and rover pin red smaller pin size .010.....i love the eaze of using the trophy Ridge sight. Been a good sight for me.... Im sure there are alot good ones out there. They all come with there challenges... It can get expensive finding what works for you.....

Thanks i

I haven’t killed to many deer with my bow but I shoot 100gr mech tips and not over 50 yds but I seem to get through penetration in less it hits a shoulder or large bone. I shoot 70 lb pull but went down to 60 lbs, since one time In KS I was so cold I couldn’t pull back the bow. I shootA Bow Tec Experience now and before that an Air Bourn 101. I think you would be limited to 30 yds or less with that heavy of a tip. IMO

Definitely considering getting some lighter arrows for the build
I think you might be confusing spine for weight, spine numbers are deflection with a set weight between 2 points, in .001 of an inch , 300 spine is .3” deflection, ie. stiffer than a 340/.34” spine, and likely a heavier arrow due to extra material providing increased stiffness.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.
