So what does "dove" cover in regards to the lead issue

Euros? Rock Dove? Mourning? WW?

Effective July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken on licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds, and any wildlife for depredation purposes.

Effective July 1, 2019, nonlead ammunition will be required when taking any wildlife with a firearm anywhere in California

Already GW are all over the place one said only Mourning one said all of them.....like I said here we go again

This is why I have gone totally lead free already. I don't want to make a costly mistake and get a ticket from mr green jeans.

Makes sense. You can either memorize all the exceptions and caveats, or just go lead-free now. Given the complexities of the rules during the phase-in, it may be assumed that the warden will be confused as well. So I'll have a copy of the rules with me if I'm hunting with lead.

I don't see how any dove are included until 2019 the way I read it....except dove, quail, snipe AND game birds shot on a game farm. I think the game farm reference is separate from the three species listed, not this birds on a game farm....lead free for Pheasant and Chukar unless on a game farm.

Now that's a good question. My dog trainer is not a licensed game farm, but it is private property. I don't see where there is any exception for private land, so I would say steel if using chukar or pheasant, but lead for pigeons until 2019' then all steel. F&G owned lands are already steel only.

Or the other solution is just go ahead and buy a case or two of steel 7s then you don't have to sweat it... $7, $7.50, $8 and $9 a box by the case at Roger's Sporting goods...
