Just a thought I had . Do you guys think that camo covers for all the bright shinny trucks parked out at the parking locations , would bring the ducks and geese in at Wister . I think from 100 feet it must look like a parking lot to the ducks . Now one day waiting for a Saturday hunt at Wister , a buddy and I saw groups snows landing in the Wister fields . It was a off hunt day Friday am . No cars at the duck hunter parking areas ! I did some hunts on public land last year , parked far away under some trees ,hunting wasn't bad . Now on two trips , trucks came and parked 150 yards from the decoys in plan site , the sunlight from the chrome on the trucks was blinding me in the blind ! The days with the trucks parking in plain sight no ducks landed at all ! The very next hunt no trucks showed up and it was back to ducks landing ! I believe I read that for snows , that parking far away is good . What do you guys think ?

I can tell you this........We park a long way from where we hunt in Canada.........In fact, even scouting we stop a minimum of a 1/2 mile away.......I've had this thought many times.

Yup I agree that trucks especially chrome and shiny stuff may make all game skittish. Maybe camo wrap or a good military tarp for when you can't park far away?

Nope Doug.......Designated parking lots near hunt sites......And I'm actually thankful they are.......

I totally agree with the parking lots at wister and the like but when out in the field or other spots trees and cover are good things. I always have better dove hunts when i park a ways away and try to hide the truck under a tree or in the bushes

Yes of course it matters, I park my boat far far away for exactly that reason.

You don't think ducks and geese fly around 7 days and three of those days when there are different things in the parking lot with loud noises and their buddies are never to be seen again that they don't get suspicious

I think it kinda depends on location. I have seen geese in Canada land right next to combines, we typically hide the vehicles next to tree lines

For Wister, not only are the trucks piled into the lots a possible issue but I believe that the moon scaping of Wister was big. Now you basically have a hundred trucks driving the roads and with every turn the head lights shoot across the ponds spooking off the birds

Resident birds get used to trucks, they are also much harder to decoy generally.

You can always tell new migrators in an area because of how skittish they are with vehicles.

Divers hold tight longer and dapplers always are the first to leave.

With all that said I never park my truck close to our hunt area. Not only for the birds but because I rather not make it easy for other hunters to know where the shooting is coming from.

Shoot on the 8th we have a 1 mile walk into our hunt area and I am excited to do it. These lazy hunters out here would never dare. Haha
