How Was it?

I hunt the grasslands and it was the worst opener ever. Not limiting out on an opener is maybe the second time in 63 years that happened.

And that comes from a lot of my friends too. There were some bright spots of course.

But the overall morning was slower than slow

80 degree weather, sun and empty skies.

Talking to refuge staff around a few locations, most were that way.

I did see a 3 bird average refuge but others were telling me maybe 1.

With that said, I LOVED being out again. Sitting in a marsh is my happy place.

Good friends and family around me, food and beverages enjoyed. Laughs and memories shared of past hunts.

It’s all good. And can only get better.

Just curious how it was for Wister, SJ?

Hi Rick,

About a 3 bird average at Wister and a 2.5 at San J...Lots of shooting for the guys I hunted with and they got 13...I got one shot and got 1 (6 shots chasing down their birds with Coley though... :joy:) ...Completely dead after the 7:30 tealfest...Fun morning overall..........

87 degrees and dead calm probably didn't help....:sun:

I hear ya draws for opener. I have put in for multiple areas for the opener for 56 years and have never drawn an opening day

I think the trick is buy'em at big5.
I never have luck gettin them online. My 2 cents. But you have to buy the whole season fer dat fuge. That was my trick to gettin a opener resi. And or like 5 a season.
I really shouldn't be givin my secrets away.
