Hybrid in southern Utah

Very cool, Richard,

Mallards will breed with anything.....A Brewer's duck is 1/2 gadwall and 1/2 mallard.....May be what you have there.

I thought the same thing, Steve. The only reason I question that is because that body looks all mallard to me.

The head looks like wigeon but the body is to big. I doubt a wigeon and a mallard combo would be that big.
What ducks was it flying with?

Richard,

Black ducks are basically an east coast duck, but there is cross migration occasionally.....We (The Deer Hunter/Josh) actually got a black duck in Alberta one year.....Extremely rare.

ps.....Your duck has a blue spectrum.....Black ducks are purple without a white border.
