Does anyone have a good grasp on the trespass law and when properties are legal and illegal to hunt. I understand "if it's not posted" but I have also had people indicate you can't hunt where row crops are planted. Someone else once told me they just hunt a particular crop as long as it is not posted. The following is from the Fish and Game Code:

2016.

It is unlawful to enter land for the purpose of discharging a firearm or taking or destroying a mammal or bird, including waterfowl, on that land, without having first obtained written permission from the owner, the owner’s agent, or the person in lawful possession of that land, if either of the following is true:

(a) The land belongs to or is occupied by another person and is either under cultivation or enclosed by a fence.

(b) There are signs of any size and wording forbidding trespass or hunting or both displayed along all exterior boundaries of the land, at intervals not less than three to the mile, and at all roads and trails entering the land, including land temporarily inundated by water flowing outside the established banks of a river, stream, slough, or other waterway, which fairly advise a person about to enter the land that the use of the land is so restricted.

My challenge is with the word "cultivation". That is a pretty general term which to me would indicate anywhere there are crops. Does cultivation end when harvest has occurred?

I don't want to be given the keys to the store, I just want to be able to scout with confidence. Any insight is appreciated.

Prolly should stay out...it's designed to hurt..

As far as cultivations goes, It would depend on the interpretation of the GW.
and your best bet is to NEVER leave something up to the interpretation of the green jeans. They could be having a bad morning and cite the hell out of you or they could be understanding and let you go. To me, I dont want to take that chance, even knowing I may get a bit of leniency and professional courtesy due to also working in LE.

If you have to ask "is this OK?" or "Am I OK if I do X" its better to side on it not being OK and that you arent OK doing it.

I have asked and have been told by land owner/farmers, you can not hunt over planted, flooded or working fields. After harvest, unless otherwise posted you are allowed to hunt them. Always ask if you can locate owner.
