I didn't get a chance to put this thread up and give the play by play as I was getting messages from the field. @baboltin has been in AK on his Dall sheep hunt. He flew to Anchorage on 8/5 and got flown into the Alaska Range on the 6th where they started backpacking and looking for a ram. I checked in with him on Tuesday and all they had seen was ewes and lambs so far. Wednesday was opening day for sheep. On Thursday I got a message that they had been on a few smaller rams but there was one they thought might be legal. He turned out to be 3/4" short and likely 7, so not legal and not the kind of ram you really want to shoot anyway. On Friday they got flown to a different area. On Saturday I got a message that they had found a nice ram but that the ram had busted them on the stalk. Brad had very little time to get setup and took a steep shot at 500 yards and missed. The ram stopped at 690 and he was able to shoot again but missed. He sent me a message describing all of this and I could tell he was pretty bummed about the whole thing. I told him to stay positive and focused and just keep hunting, no point in beating yourself up. His guide had heard of another ram in the area so it seemed like their plan was to stay in that area and keep hunting. Just now I got the "Ram Down" message. I'm sure he'll fill in the gaps and give us some detail when he gets back to civilization.

I'm fired up for him! As most of you know I was able to go last year and a Dall sheep hunt is no joke. It's really a serious accomplishment and an incredible experience. I was chatting with my guide last night and told him I'm ruined for life. I've been dreaming about sheep hunting for the last 6 weeks and I think every year when July comes around my mind is going to take a trip to AK with or without my body. The four year waiting period for non-residents is a serious bummer. I will be going again as soon as possible. For those of you with the freedom to pick up and go.... I recommend you drop everything and move to AK and start hunting sheep every year.

Can you tell I have a sickness?

Now your going to want to head out there every year you can. Do we have a job transfer coming to AK ;).

I brought this post back to life since I have forgot to tell the story of my ram that I killed in 2022, so instead of having a lengthy post telling the whole story I thought I would post a link to my video of my hunt for you all to enjoy and I know most of us rather watch or listen to the story compared read it.

Additionally I went back to Alaska in 2023 to be a packer on a dall sheep hunt, I love Alaska and hunting there so I took advantage of the opportunity to go back and work for the outfitter I hunted with in 2022 and after a long ten day hunt we were successful on a great ram. Here are a couple pictures of that.
