Kern NWR 10-25-17

Got an invite on a #2 res at Kern NWR.....Bob, the ressie holder is kind of new to the waterfowling game, but did just fine.....He also invited his friend who's a longtime waterfowler and big game hunter, Al....The designated blinds are nice, as far as no hassles, knowing where to go, and dry land.....But the free roam is where it's at, if you want big ducks.

The walk to blind 2 is about a mile....Cool in the morning, but really hot walking out.....In between, was a pretty wide open teal and spoonie show....We ended around noon with 19 birds. Considering the conditions (dead calm, clear, & warm), we did Ok.

Got a good picture of a pretty rare bird this time of year.....A ruddy drake in full summer plumage.

ps.....The drive home sucked (left at 1, didn't get home till 8)......I hate LA!

Awesome Steve.

I hunted our opener yesterday. Held out for big ducks and shouldn't have. Shot a few, but it was a spoony and teal fest until 10 am. Then it shut off when the birds started rafting in the middle.

Not only does Al hunt everything.... bass as well!

Al is a really good bass fisherman.....We talked bass hunting for quite some time......lol.....Glad I was able spend a day with him.

Haven't been on here in a while.... So is life.... I hunted #5 that morning Steve. I got up to the counter and asked for Blind 2 and found out it was already taken. I shook my fist at the bastard who took #2! HAHA.... I think we had the best shooting blind that day though. We took #10. Turned out to be a teal shoot. Ducks shut down fast and early but we got some shooting in.

That's too funny.....We had the #2 pick and #1 said 2.....We assumed he meant blind 2....Nope, it was Unit 2....Still like free roam best.
