I'm fishing Lake Barrett Saturday. Any advice on places to camp nearby so I can be there at 5 AM for the first escort? I could stay at hotel too, but I like camping.

I have stayed the night in line a few times. Or you can get a room in Alpine. That would put you about 15 min. away from the gate. But July is not very pleasant on that lake. Way to hot. Good luck.

I've slept in line too......Both duck hunting & fishing.......If you've got a camper or something other than the front seat or cot you should be OK......Nights have been pretty cool......If not, get a hotel in Alpine.

ps.....Viejas Casino is right there too, if you like to gamble a little with hotel room....... ;)

Here was my first fish of the day yesterday at Barrett.

Then I caught 2 about this size. My bro in law caught 3. The biggest was 2.5 pounds. I lost two more on the line, I'm guessing due to the barblesss hooks? And several bites throughout the morning. A little slower than all the hype I had heard about Barrett, but overall a fun day.

Still looks like fun, despite the rough conditions that are taking a serious toll on the lake........... :(
