Sign up is easy and John Fish the guy running things today was cool. You setup in your lane for a mostly prone match. Most of the guys shooting have a tactical style rifle of one kind or another. They have a warm up and sight in period so you can dial in any last second things.
each time its your turn they have a 3 to 6 round string you fire at targets from 700 to 200 yards. sometimes its 3 and they are all from 600 to 675 and sometimes they are from 200 back out to 600. The strings are timed and if you take to long you drop shots on time. Newbies will find it hard to remember the strings and what steel targets to aim at but they do their best to help if you have you trouble. Having never done any type of match where you shoot at multiple ranges it was not easy but not so hard that you missed every shot. I had some good strings and some bad. It was a lot harder to swing target to target on the rest i was using, bipod would have been better. They had us shoot one string of 5 off hand at 200 m. I hit the first one then fell on my face for the next four. 20lb guns do not freehand so great lol.
They do tactical matches and that sounds like a blast. You walk all over the place shooting in odd positions and short and long range. So either that or the long range matches are now on my list of things to do.
its going to be a bit before i can do any matches with work pretty much taking me out till DEC and ducks after that. I will be back to shoot there again! My 6mm would be a better choice for what they had going on but it was still fun and i broke the cherry on my big gun till i get to a fclass shoot.
oh and you wana know my score.... NOT PRETTY, it will be on their website later. Unless you have shot this match save your i could do better for later. I have huge respect for the guys shooting multiple clean rounds. this shit was hard.
