Looking at things besides animals wirh your scope

So I know you big game guys are bored so here is some fun for you. Grab a app like star tracker for your phone. It will help you find the planets. Set up your spotting scope and you might be amazed at what you can see. Bands on jupiter and it's moons. the rings on saturn are easy to see as well . The moon can be fun to look at but best when not full. It's too bright otherwise.

You can also use your binos or scope in reverse to look at a solar eclipse if you put the image coming out of the optics on a back drop and observe it. Warning never look at the eclipse directly through the optics. I usually use the wall of my home to broadcast the image on.

Drives me nuts when we are glassing deer and one of the boys is looking through their Binos backwards for the fun of it. They have pretty much outgrown it but man there was a time when it was a common occurrence.

For those wanting some glassing opps close to home in SD, a good Mission Trails run is to park at the Jackson Drive lot and hike up the hill past the river and glass the South Fortuna mountainside to the east. There's always deer there but they move around so it's good practice finding em. And a decent uphill workout hike if you pack some weight.

Larry is not here anymore.

My kids do this around that house all the time. Especially my 3 year old, she thinks it is hilarious.
