Thanks Mark.......It stopped me from shooting the little forky...........
I wanted this spork dead after I saw him for the 1st time last week (bad genes).....Way too many spikes in the area.....
The story.....Since coming back from Montana/Canada, I've hunted the best 40 acres in San Diego Co. 3 times.....Despite some good bucks on trail cams before I left, there's been nothing but does, spikes, and this spork. And this spork was chasing does and for now, seemed to be the dominant buck in the area.
He was the intended target, but yesterday at about 5:15, a small forky comes down the hill with 3 does, then some does with a spike.....The forky leaves the other animals and starts working his way towards me (I'm in a pop-up).....When he gets to within 30 yds and I'm contemplating shooting him, the phone goes off.....Well, I'm new to these iphones and finally get to answer it.....It's MJB....I tell him what I'm doing and hang up.....Now the little forky has turned away because I look to my left and here comes 5 does and THE spork.....I had my rangefinder in my hand and get him at 34 yds quartering away (farther than I'm normally comfortable with).....I whistle, he stops, I let one fly.....Bad shot, but he damn near goes down....Hit him in the rear ham with the arrow headed forward to mid rib opposite side.....I'm shooting 3-blade Grim-Reapers......The amount of damage and blood was incredible for such a bad shot....
.....But because it was a bad shot, I decided to let him set overnight.....He went about 25yds from where I last saw him and about 75 yds overall from where he was hit.....Found him quickly this morning with Jacob.........
