Morning or Evening?

So last season i saw more action at mid day to evening. Except for 2 occasions. Other than the 2 it was mostly after 11am. Would like to hear some of your experiences.

I stay in the glass all day. I see game at all times of the day. Obviously they are going to be out in the early morning and evening but you would be surprised how many animals you glass up at 1pm. They don’t go into caves they just bed but as the sun moves the animals will reposition or get water. Never stop hunting bring snacks water and stay in the glass.

I keep notes on what I see, where I see it and when I see it. My primary spot was almost 50/50 morning to evening. I did see more deer 11am-2pm than I have in previous years.

Most of my action starts about an hour after sunrise and lasts for a couple hours. After that things get quiet unless you're intentionally walking through the brush busting bedded deer. I see deer moving at dusk but it's usually very late, especially if it's hot.

Of the 4 "16" bucks we got (3 private, 1 public)....3 were shot in the morning and 1 in the evening....The 3 in the morning were spotted early and shot between 7-9:00 am...Movement during our rut can happen all day...Activity on the private seems to be stronger in the afternoon....Plus, in the afternoon, we're already set up and movement is easy to spot....2 of the bucks were by themselves and were moving up hill....Good reason to start before sunrise and getting to high ground.

There's also the variables of weather, hunting pressure, location of available water & food....Weather wise, I've always liked hunting deer in the rain (not real common in our season)....They really seem to like being under oaks with acorns falling....The hotter the weather, the less the daytime activity seems to be the norm....Morning wins out here.

2 cents.

Sounds like a lightweight chair would be ideal?

Morning is by far the most productive time for finding game in my experience. That doesn’t mean I haven’t found animals at other times but the ratio is heavily skewed to the morning hours. I will sit all day during the season but I know if I haven’t found something by 10 or 11.... it’s most likely going to be a very long day. The evening hours can be productive but it’s usually very close to last light that they are up and moving. In a spot and stalk situation this makes for poor chances of a kill because you often don’t have time to make a play before dark. Even in Texas where there is the draw of the feeder, bucks won’t come out until just before dark. I’ve killed a few that come slinking out of the woods during the last few minutes of shooting light.

7a-9a most active where I go. Either that or 5p+ in another area nearby where they make their way back into a private property in the pm.

I always have a foam butt pad with me and then I just find a rock or bush to put my pack against. Getting comfortable is key.
I have a small foam pad myself. I like leaning on trees. Leaning trees are my favorite. Kind of like a recliner. Using my pack for upright or kind of up right sitting . Jajajajjaja! My sitting pad is my wife's ab roller pad that she lost last year around june.. jajajajjajajajja!!!!

Josh (Flydown Custom Calls) carried a small inflatable seat with him last season while deer hunting...Fits neatly in the back pack...Pretty trick
