Hey guys, Im thinking of going to mount laguna this summer to hunt. How does it work there with camping? Can you camp anywhere you want if you are hunting or do you need to use the campsites? How do you tell the recreation area from the hunting area?
 
What do you plan on hunting in the summer up there? The rec area is archery only. You can download a map of the area or get a map of the area from the ranger station. It clearly outlines the boarder in red that shows the rec area. Also get OnX maps if you haven't already. Not sure about the camping..if its public you should be able to camp out.

There's a designated camping area...There's also camping in the general area (Green River, Lake Henshaw, Cuyamaca, KQ campground, etc.)...As far as hunting in the rec area...The only season open (besides jacks & coyotes) is cottontail...Don't know if you can them in there.

San Felipe W.A. is nearby as well, but it is closed till the dove opener...BLM & Cleveland NF are pretty much your only choices.
 
Laguna campground was having improvements done. I have tried many times to contact someone over the phone but nobody answers.
 
Laguna will remain closed for the rest of the year as they are doing major upgrades to the entire campgrounds. Lake Cuyamaca is only taking reservations for 1 day at a time.
