Hi everyone I'm new, I'm from Lancaster hiring to learn something's. My first question is where to go for Jack with lead ammo from here?

Welcome to the site. As for jack rabits I am not to familiar with the areas around Lancaster. If you go to any high desert there will be Jacks.

Welcome Ko,

I shot my 1st jack rabbit near Red Rock Cyn......The Mojave desert can have great amounts of Jacks and that's not far from you. Jawbone Cyn and the alfalfa fields near Hwy 14 can all be good as well.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcomes! Do you know if you can use lead ammo around red rock and jawbone?

You can use lead until July 1st in your shotgun.....Red Rock is a state park now. So no shooting in there at all.

Phase 2 – Effective July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken on licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds, and any wildlife for depredation purposes.

ps.....Probably a good idea reading this......

No youth guns back then the gun is as tall as the kid on your right. I am guessing that is your little brother?

Looks like it's time to grab a .17 HMR, Still impossible to find non lead .22lr.

Just got some "green" .17 HMR. Haven't fired it yet, but looks about the same as the others. About $3.00 more per box of 50.

Let me know, I do not own a 17 hmr but will be with so few non lead options. I thought about the 17wsm, just not sure if it's gonna take off or not. I do have a youth 65lb pull compound I got my wife I could use as well.

I love my Savage .17 HMR.....Kills stuff up to coyotes.....Really deadly on rabbits and squirrels..... ;)

Would you go for the 17wsm?

I personally would not......Just the availability of ammo alone would steer me away......Here's a pretty good read comparing the two.....Sounds like ballistically the .17 wsm has a slight advantage. Not enough for me to change though. The cost of ammo isn't that big a factor at about a $2.00 per box difference.

Is thinking the same thing, 17hmr it is. I hear tehacipi is loaded with yotes and jacks.

Used to hunt Tehachapi a lot in my younger years (quail)......Don't recall a lot of public land until you get up near Caliente and Bodfish.

Have you tried the green ammo yet?
