I am new to Southern California and to hunting, I just wanted to ask a question. Specifically, what would your gear list me for a Newbie hunting deer? and what optional or recommended items would you suggest getting eventually?

Thank you to everyone in advance!

Edit: deer

What do you want to start hunting first? Upland game, water fowl, predators...?

Stick,

Welcome to SCH...........Lots of good threads about deer in the big game forums.....Boots & Binos should be 1st priorities.....Well, besides a good .270..... ;)

ilovesprig I got a basic 30-06 from my father this last christmas. Eventually I will probably get something nicer maybe ill switch to a .270.
As for boots, I have these. Would they be fine?: http://www.weinbrennerusa.com/dspNavCategory.cfm?rootID=1&catID=142&prodid=150

I do need to spend some more time in them. I think my plan for this year is to go up to D14 and hike around with a pair of binoculars and a camera. Any suggestions or recommendations on what do look for in a pair of binoculars?

And on the off chance you are military or LEO, they offer a pretty steep discount. It is not a flat % though, you have to email them with the product you are interested in to get the price.
