Name is AJ
Work for the forest service on the Palomar ranger district.
been clay shooting for a few years and I have decided to get into hunting for the fun and to eat some meat.
I currently own a 12guage mossburg 500 and just picked up a ruger scout 308 in hopes to get a hog or maybe a deer.
I went dove hunting about 5 years ago with a co-worker, I had a blast. My co-worker stopped going, so I never got a second chance. With this forum I'm hoping to get some tips and tricks to get me started in the right direction.

Looking at the rules and regs, I may of started too late this year and will have to wait until next open season.

If I can eat it, I'll hunt it.

AJ,

Welcome to SCH......Sounds like you've got the start of some good equipment......This season is just about over except for some predators and turkeys here in SoCal......An event that you may want to attend is the NWTF Spring Turkey Tune-Up here in San Diego (San Vicente Reservoir)......Drawing for hunting turkeys on city property and some good vendors. Lots of knowledgeable hunters and like minded folks.

AJ,
I just realized that my first and last names contain the same letters as yours with the exception of one letter in my first name being different and one letter in my last name.

Rabbit season (cottontail) ends after tomorrow. Then the next edible hunting season for me is Turkey beginning on March 26th (I eat a little crow when I scout for turkey prior to opening day).

Welcome to the site. With those two guns you can kill anything our state has to offer. I recommend going to the Turkey Tune up on Feb 20 There will be a lot of talk about it on the site for the next few weeks.

Great feedback from everyone, Sounds like this Forum is exactly what i was looking for. I'll be gone for the turkey tune up, but hopefully they'll be more events to come.

AJ,
This forum is a great resource for anyone looking to gain a little extra knowledge. I suggest taking a little while to use and abuse the search function on SCH on anything you're interested in, as I am sure it has been covered previously to some degree. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Welcome to SCH and the forum AJ. You might consider hunting coyotes and bobcat in the off-season so you'll have more to eat during next year's hunting season. You've got the tools to get it done and there's lots of coyotes and bobcats around Palomar Mtn. For pigs, I'd look into a guided hunt.
;)

Don't hunt bob cats in the "off" season please. They do have a season. I believe with out looking at the regs off hand it ended yesterday but don't quote me on that. However for 3 bucks I always buy a few bob cat tags so when it is season I can hunt them up. I've actually had better luck with bob cats then yotes.

Hmmm... Interesting take on what I wrote. Thanks for clarifying for me GSP.

The point is well made: always know the regs when you go hunting, and if possible have a copy on you in case you are challenged. Here is a good example, the result of a 30 second Google search on my phone. Print it out or save it to your phone, and you are good to go.
