Scouted this morning with Jacob......These 3 big boys were doing their best to influence this hen......She appeared she could care less about them...... :p

Followed up on a couple of spots and looked at some new ones......Found a single gobbler with a few hens in the middle or nowhere (running & gunning with the peacock call).....Found gobblers with many less hens than a week ago. And saw a number of single hens......The worst thing I saw was the lack of turkeys on the Santa Ysabel Preserve (site of the youth hunt).....Just last Thursday there were probably 30 hens and at least 10 longs.....This morning there was 3 gobblers and about 10 hens......Saturday can't get here fast enough..... ;)

Just a question...

Were these birds on private or public land?

Very close to public, but pretty much inaccessible (MCC/VID)...... :-X
When you gonna write a book on Hunting SoCal Turkey You probably have forgotten more about turkey hunting that I will ever know.

Thanks, but I starting at zero like most from SoCal 22 years ago (did hunt them in Arizona in 1972 and owned a box call)......I was fortunate to become close friends with Senior biologist DFG and guru of turkeys, John Massie (the reason we have SD turkey hunting). I soon became a protégé of his and the rest his history. As much as I love every kind of hunting & fishing. Once I started turkey hunting, I couldn't get enough of it......I will now travel long distances to hunt this magnificent bird..... ;)

Really! Your mentor for turkey is John Massie! I have read a lot about that guy...well what I could find on the net.
We sure do owe him alot for what he did for the Southern California hunter...

What is the Turkey Master doing these days? Does he still get out?

He really isn't involved with NWTF anymore, but he does still hunt......I had the pleasure of guiding him last year on his Rio turkey hunt to finish his one season "Grand Slam" (Merriam, Eastern, Osceola, & Rio).
