Pulled over by CBP while scouting

^^^^ the seals do sniper training at a private ranch in East county......a few seals have been stalked by cats at night not knowing it.
I've heard of similar instances near Carvaker, SE of Alpine.

Bring donuts (Pennsylvania inside joke, sorry but couldn’t help it) then ask for their intel on hoof prints in the area.

Zak, Good on you, I'm always legal with whatever I do and because of that I will never submit to a search, you have to understand that this is another way to condition us to submit to their non legal ways. I will always answer their questions and tell them the truth but will not let them by my permission voilate my rights given to me by our founding fathers . If you do this you are conditioning them and the populace and maybe your offspring and family to submit to them and the rights that were given to us by the bill of rights over two hundred years ago. Never let federal or local law enforcement over extend their reach because in my opinion you will only embolden them to push further in the future. Just imagine that those officers go back to their commander and tell them that you or I imposed the bill of rights on them and asked their commander how they should have handled it or what they should do in the future, It'll make them think twice. Don't get me wromg I believe in the rule of law and law enforcement but we as citizens must hold the line when they try to cross it and that is what happened when they stopped you and asked for a search. It is our job as citizens to keep their policies and behaviors in check by calling them out when they try and over extend their influence through intimdation. Good on you for turning them down.

On our last duck season, my son and I had italian sausage sandwiches at Wister, which I grilled on the tail gate of my SUV. The dog at the bulevard station was desperate to get into the back of our Vehicle. We were asked what we were carrying and we told them what we did. They saw all the equipment through the window and they let us go.

Do all border drug runners wear ski masks? The questions LE asks are all part of their tough job of deciphering who the good and bad guys are. Most people are good people... but I'd suspect that a drug smuggler might be smart enough to masquerade as a hunter down near the border. The simple question "do you mind if I search your vehicle"... is just that, a simple investigative question. You have a right to say no. If he has probable cause for something more.... that's more than a simple question to him. I can go on and on but your statement of abuse of power is a far stretch.

You guys should ask Larry about law enforcement.... he met one once and determined that they are all drunks who abuse their wives. Major abuse of power as well... it was a great two pages he wrote.. but he deleted it to escape law enforcement so that he couldn't be searched. He knows all about what you are talking about and can fill you in.

I've got no shortage of BP stories, all good..

Couple years ago my buddy, who's an avid predator hunter, invited me out for a night hunt with his brother who was in town from Wisconsin. I couldn't make it but they went anyway, to a very popular spot right off a major road. After doing a few stands, they noticed a big helo circling overhead for a bit. Then awhile later, the area lit up and a group of guys in tactical gear and ARs intercepted them, and a mini helo landed in the field nearby. My buddy and his bro were escorted to the road where about 5 BP trucks were waiting, lights on, and questioning began. All ended well, no one was rude, but they decided their night hunt was done. Crazyness!

Few weeks back I hiked up to hang some cameras and, on the way up, I stuck my face in one of their sensors and waved hello. My buddy who was with me didn't believe me, but at the Pine Valley checkpoint, they stopped us. The agent laughed and asked if we had a good time this morning in the specific area we were at. I said "how'd you know it was us out there?" He replied "because I was watching the cam this morning when the sensor went off and your big f-ing mug was in the feed." We had a good laugh about it and went on our merry way. I told the agent he's lucky I didn't take a dump right there because that's my usual dumping spot. Ha!

Ed, No disrespect to CBP at all they have a tough job and I appreciate that they do it and support them. I did not say they were abusing their power and would give them nore funding if it were up to me as well as support to hardening of the border with more formidible walls and technology. I would just want them to know that I know what my rights are and that they are not allowed to cross that line with me or anyone. From what Zak said even though he said no their dog circled his vehicle and indicated they had a justifible search on their hands because the dog was indicating but when they went through his vehicle it lead to nothing being found. I know as a dog trainer that you can train a dog to do just about anything under just about any circumstance so it leads me to wonder what they did or might have done in past training to lead to that outcome, I know from my LE dog handler friends ( I know several and they are all top shelf in my opinion) and that the time they spend with them to become an LE pooch that they have to meet very high standards over a long period of training. My question is and I hope I'm wrong is are these dogs using trained behaviors to do whatever the handlers want in front of citizens who do not know better and or what they are observing. If I came into an encounter like Zak (and I don't know Zak in anyway so cannot vouch for him and am commenting on his narrative only) I would have video taped it and if questions presented themselves I would call them out on a poorly trained dog if I felt it were the case and let them know that I would be contacting their commanders to let them know their dog may not be up to standard and may not be worthy of its job so as to let them know we are watching and will not accept that sort of nonsense and they need to do better. Legal is legal and right is right, these hard working folks in CBP or any other form of LE should be respected for their efforts but must observe the letter of the law in doing their jobs as I do mine. Please read the earlier comment about how someone cooked italian sausges on their tailgate and got the same search treatment. To me that is a poorly trained dog or that motives are being used to manipulate a situation. I hope that is not the case as I believe in what they do and support them but it has to be done right otherwise we as a country and its citizens and servants are no better than the bad guys.

I don't want to go on and on... which we could easily do. First, we weren't there and don't know all the facts. We have no idea what info that CBP had prior to contact. I was a LE canine handler for 8 years... an alert on sausage to conduct a search would be illegal and an abuse of power... I would suggest, from my experience, that's not exactly how it happened. There's a lot more to these stories... most of which the original posters don't know about themselves. No disrespect to anyone... just saying that this is the internet and typed words can be misleading.

Are there bad apples... certainly, but they are very few and usually get weeded out, I've seen it. If you feel the need to test and hold every LE you come in contact with accountable... have at it. I can watch it on CNN... Ed F

Agreed

This statement isn't really fair. I've "come in contact with'' dozens of LE that didnt need "testing". But none asked to violate my rights.
This thread is about the cops that may have.
I will always continue to support LE, as I will continue to question anyone who questions my rights.

Why isn't it fair? I didn't direct it at any single person and some people are anti authority and will push it every single time. Asking for conscent to search is 100% legal and a very effective way of putting bad people in jail... no way is it a violation of anyones rights. Ed F
