Ok guys, so I may have a chance to take a road trip for a few days to hunt turkeys in Colorado. I have a good friend who lives in Park county but he's not sure where to hunt turkeys. My google search hasn't really been successful either. Anyone know of any forest land or BLM land near park county that has turkeys? I don't need any specifics but just a hint as to where to look. And if anyone would like to go, I don't mind company.

Gen,

I hunted out of Durango and the Rio Grande NF last year.......The San Isabel NF is above where I was......Like most places, access to the NF is mostly thru private property......Believe it or not, there was a lot of interest in turkey hunting out there......I'll check with Tanner's brother Tom too. He moved to Colorado Springs and I know he's been turkey hunting here.

I also got permission from a guy about 4 hours south of where you might be (Canon City to Bayfield).

Sweet, thanks Steve! If I'm Able to get the time, I will have about two weeks off. I completely forgot Tom moved to Colorado. I figure I would travel through out the south east portions of the state and hunt different areas. My friend lives right next to Pikes national forest.

Gen,

Something else you may want to consider is contacting the Colorado state NWTF reps......Tell them your a member of the San Diego chapter and could use some info.

How did that go I have family in Durango

Johnnie,

It's a long story, but one of the guys got a nice gobbler the 1st day and I passed on a jake.....That was it on the ranch we were hunting.....I did find another property that had 2 "Longs" on it, but we ended up leaving before I could hunt it (owner gave me permission).....Needless to say, I wasn't real happy about leaving early.

We were just outside of Bayfield.....Per the locals, turkeys were down some. We did hunt it late though (May 19th).
