Ghost you would be surprised how easy they are to shoot with the brakes on them. My 338 win mag with the brake feels like it hits something between a 270 and a 243

I dont und we rstand how a savage with a cheak rest and a muzzle break makes it long range. I would go remington 700 sendaro long before one of these.

what does it weigh?

+ 1 on the Sendero . Timney trigger , bedding , and a good scope will make it a 1000 yards gun.

Lee. here's a good video on how to make a Sendero a LR gun...

The only person that will benefit from a 338 lapua is military. If u want a hard hitting long range round there is way way bwtter choices. The lapua is only going to help u stop vehicles or really big animals but why spend the extra money ro ahoot auxh an expensive calinlber for so little benifits. My 7 magnum shooting a 180 grain vld bullwt at 2900 fpa is aupeesonic out to 1600 yards. The lapua gains u an extra 300 to 500 yards thats it. A 300 rum shooting the 210 vld bullets will give u almost the equivelent distance as the lapua. Id u run the numbers its not worth it unless u can shoot to 2000 yards and u want to stop an elephant. now id u can do that then awsome it may benefit you but dont follow all the hype about the 338 lapua its not that fantastic. The new bullets for 7mm 6.5 and 30 calliber rounds are much more efficient and will sserve most shooters much better.

here is what other folk think about Savage vs Rem

http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=87946.0

I read through the posts and struggle with the comparison in relation to serious long range shooting. Below is a factual metric derived from the top 50 F-Class shooters in 2014. There is not even a single Savage or Savage variant being used in serious competition as noted in the data here. In the top 50 all are Remington and or Remington varients. And regarding the Rem Sendero vs. the Savage long range guns, (IMHO) the Sendero is a much better rifle with endless potential.

Disclaimer: I am not nocking Savage Arms. They are decent entry level guns. And folks can certainly use them for long range. But it just isn't a first choice unless you are on a serious budget.

Not gonna... :p

Dont even try to compare mossberg to remington. Savages are decent guns but not whst i would use for a precision gun. I think what NBK and i are trying to explain is there is a big diference between a precision long range rifle and a gun u can shoot long range. Im sure u can take a 50 dollar gun out to 1000 yards with enough time. U probably wont be able to do it consistantly and with any accuracy though. Thats were a precision rifle will seperate u from the rest. All the guys that say my gun can hit a dinner plate at 200 yards and thats good enough for them. Well that dinner plate group at 200 yards is 3 foot groups at 1000 yards.

The thread is titled: "savage long range out of the box"

It would seem that Savage is claiming that they are bringing a rifle to market that has long range accuracy with NO MODS. Short of a GAP or AI or GunWerks or other semi-custom gun, who is marketing a production long range gun? Let's assume for the moment that the standard for a long range rifle is sub-MOA at 100 yds (someone on the internet said that this is the military's standard, so that must be true). Yes, the Remington 700 and its variants have potential, but I don't know of one that's configured for and actually produces sub-MOA groups out of the box (OOTB). So rather than bring guns with LR potential into the mix, let's discuss rifles that can do it OOTB with no mods. Also, if Savage is making claims that their rifles can't back up, let's discuss that, too.

So does Savage produce a rifle accurate enough at long range (800-1000 yds) to be able to hunt ethically with it, OOTB?
