The 4th annual Oscar Canon Wounded Warrior Duck Hunt Took place last weekend and what a great event it was. Driving out on Friday afternoon i was blown away with how many ducks were feeding in every pond. I had a feeling this was going to be a great hunt come Saturday morning.
We have the boys come out Friday night to BBQ and hang out around the campfire. If you have never spent a night around a campfire with a bunch of Marines you have not lived. It's honestly one my favorite parts of this event. Mike Tello and Cary Fredricks had a Ton of food and drinks ready for them. Greg Fasching fired up the bbq and had the food rolling in no time.
The time came to get the guys squared away for the morning hunt. The Bass Proshop gear and Ammo from Hevi-Shot was just the ticket. Hevi-Shot has been a Sponsor since day one. This year we were going try the new Hevi-STEEL ammo and Damn this stuff hits hard!!!!
Well we got everyone tucked into bed and slept away the couple hours till it was time to get up and hunt.
4am rolled around and it was time to get up and get ready. Aaron aka SCH'S (slayersmith) and Bill got into camp again this year and took 3 guys out into the public hunting grounds on the sea! Turns out Aaron is the man and his two guys would be top gun for the day.
The IV gods were not kind to us this year. The morning fly off happen with a whimper and all the ducks that were hanging out the night before had split before dawn. The Air was dead calm and warm. Most of the guys were getting shooting in as a Spoon here and a Teal there would come in. By late morning most of the guys would have 3 or 4 birds.
By 11am the temps were getting warm and the breeze showed no signs of getting any better. IT was lunch TIME!
Once again my brother Bill DeMoss and my dad were camp cooks. They cooked up something like 70 burgers!
The list of folks i have to thank is long.
First off i would like to thank Mike and Brenda Carver With R.J. Noble Co. They believed in my little adventure the first year when i asked for help and with their continued support this event has just got better and better.
Hevi-Shot, your continued support means that our Marines had Great ammo. We needed it because every opportunity counted this year. The New Hevi-Steel was great stuff!!!!
BassPro Shops, The gear was fantastic! The performance underwear was worn by almost everyone. Just wish we had some weather so the great waterproof jackets could have been used!
Our other sponsors played a big roll this year helping with getting license cost, Gas and Hotel rooms for all the guys. Lunday Thagard, Paramount Petroleum, and Hanson Aggregate you guys all came up big this year.
Last i would like to thank Bryant Campbell and the members of The Falling Feathers Ranch. It takes a team to pull this off and you guys are a great team. Special guest this year Anabel, Your photos were great thanks for the help
For you guys that wonder who the heck is Oscar and why do we commemorate him. follow this link and read a bit.
