I've been hunting deer and pig for quite some time now and looking to get into smaller game such as rabbit. I usually go up way north for those. I'm looking to stay more local, south OC (SM) to be exact. I'm looking to travel anywhere that I can get a few rabbits for some stew. I don't have any dogs I wojld use the stop and go method.
Also I have a 22 and 12 gauge, if I'm really feeling bold I'll use my bow (but not often).
Any replies would be great!

start by buying maps , National Forest, BLM, the start burning gas. looking in these areas.
look for flat bushy areas. look early in the morning and late afternoons.

There are a lot of rabbits in the hills and in the fields and near bushes. Sarcasm intended. Grab a gun and get out you will find rabbits. Don't forget steel shot as of this year for rabbits. Good luck!

I'll go and look at some maps, but is there any areas you guys can point me in? Such as off a highway or a certain area? Not looking for exact coordinates just general places to look so I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off

You need to get out and burn some boot leather. You shouldn't have to work too hard. Rabbits are cyclical though. They self regulate their population densities on a roughly 5 year cycle. So you may see a lot in an area one year and then none a few years later.

Don't over think this, they are bunnies.

No substitute for driving to places like the Imperial Co., Kern Co., or Eastern Riverside & San Bernardino counties......The other option is to try and get permission on private properties in between.

Hey Drake I'm new too. I'll be scouting area's as soon as my kid goes back to school. Myabe we can compare notes that might be helpful to both of us.

One of the closer spots to you is San Jacinto wildlife area. Takes 1 hour 15 minutes from my house in south OC. I have limited out there and I have been skunked there. Rabbit population fluctuates widely Year to year. Of course the part of the property with the most bunnies is open for duck only. The upland game side (west of Davis Road) is where you'll hunt. You have to burn leather to find where they are concentrated. Bring bug repellent!! Early or late in the day. Middle is a waste of time. Shotgun only. Good luck!

I'll be sure to check that out and see what's up there.

Thanks a lot!

My kid got one in the backyard with the air rifle. Hike around the D-14 area. Their all over early morning.
