Summer Buck Patterns

I found a buck last weekend on a scouting trip and I’ve been wondering what the chances are that he’ll be in the same area come mid October. In your guys’ experience hunting the local zones, how often have you harvested a buck in the same area that you found him in during the summer? Also, on average how big of an area would you say our local bucks live in since many of them don’t migrate from summer to winter range? I’m hunting D14 specifically.

A study was done here in the D-16 zone a number of years back and most bucks stayed within a 1 mile radius the entire year....The one time they'll travel some is during the rut....I know on one of my private spots, I see bucks starting about now....As dominant bucks start moving, they'll kick smaller bucks out....If that buck gets killed, another moves in.

Good chance your buck will be near by.

ps...This big forky just showed up....I'm sure he'll be around awhile.

I never stop checking them...Just don't check them as often in the off season...Prime time is coming up.

I was talking about not doing any scouting trips for a couple weeks leading up to the season so the deer don’t get spooked.
