Hey guys, check the info you are putting out. Regarding the shooting by water comments. I got checked by a Game Warden a few years ago and was told I couldn't shoot over water. I thought this was BS. What do duck hunters do? Well, as it turns out, there is no state law prohibiting this (that I know of), BUT there is a CDF regulation prohibiting it...and I was on CDF land.
Now about the "assault weapon"...I did contact the California DOJ and it is permissible to unregister an "assault weapon" and re-configure it into a Kalifornication compliant weapon. You need to email [email protected] with your info and gun info and tell them you want to unregister the weapon by removing all the prohibited features from it and return it to a California compliant weapon. Awesome info. From what I thought was you can use an ar as long it’s cal complaint such as juggernaut restricting the mag to drop with the mag button only. Which at that point would make it a rifle in a AR platform. I have my lower registered but not registered as an official assault rifle which is another ball game. But best ask directly to people in control of the laws.
As far as shooting across water maybe can be the issue of ricochet that there concerned about.

Varmint grenades have been around for awhile and they are spectacular in performance in small to meduim size vermin, No exit wound and they are green, My go to when I reload...

The VG is a wicked bullet! I use the 36 grain in my 222. When you hit a prairie dog or squirrel with one, all you get is a red mist!

I have two uppers, one in 223 and the other in 6.5 Grendel. My lower has a Patriot Button which make them legal in Kalifornication. As a PS, If you do use a Patriot Button, replace the lanyard with a stainless steel split key ring. Much better, and doesn't get in the way.

For the .223, look into the 55 grain Barnes MPG (Multi Purpose Green) bullet as well. 23.0 grains of H335 gives me a velocity of 2809 and a 0.41" group. I just killed a coyote at just over 300 yards on my first hunting trip with this bullet. I had just finished working up the load and sighting in the rifle so I took it down to the valley to try it out. When it hit at over 300 yards, there was one of the loudest "WHOP's" I have ever heard. That dog went straight down and didn't twitch. If you get a 6.5 Grendel upper for it, try the Speer 90 grain TNT bullets. 31.0 grains of H335 give a velocity of 2692 and a 0.22" group! I do have a spare barrel for sale if you want to build one.

Cecil, ain’t nobody gonna give up their spots. That said, the best thing to do is get out and learn your area. Make sure it is legal to hunt there, if it is look for signs of the animals you want to hunt. If it were me, I’d get something bigger than a 9mm to drop a deer. It would probably do the job, but you better be a damn good shot. The air rifle would likely be just fine for coons, albeit I’ve never shot a coon, so I’m not certain.

Thank you, I plan on using my bow for deer and maybe bear, mostly cause i heard its scarce and it would even the playing field since i could easily take a 100 yard shot with 9mm or my 5.56. I was also going to use a drone but a lot of people are against it and i don't want my drone shot down. I'm going to place 1 or 2 trail cameras on the west side of Cleveland and just wanted to be respectful incase someone is already hunting or creating pressure there. Small and medium deer require 100-150 FPE in order for a humane kill. .30 cal air rifle is making that with 50 gr at 950 FPS, 9mm is 124gr at 1300 FPS from 16 inch barrel from what i have found so it shouldn't be a problem.
Also if your night hunting coons turn off the light for a second as they're coming and see how scary it can get lol.

You shouldn't be thinking about deer hunting with a .30 caliber air rifle or a 9 mm pistol. That is not humane. A coyote? Have at it.
