Went to a pond somewhere east of my home in Fallbrook [Steve, you know exactly where I went]. Got there at dark and realized I had forgotten my jacket or sweatshirt. Cold. Took an old beach towel from the back and attacked it with a pair of scissors. Made a fairly decent serape. 30 minutes later had 9 bullfrogs, 2 medium and the rest huge. Bullfrogs everywhere and saw some really nice bucks wandering around. Frog legs soaking in brine and lemon juice and will have this evening. Haven't gigged frogs in almost 50 years. Very happy camper.

Great going, Bruce....When that pond was loaded with bass, bull frogs didn't have a chance....Now, with many fewer fish....It's pretty loaded with 'em....Love frog giggin'

Yes, quite a few. And quail coming down to drink at sunset. The deer I saw were a beautiful buckskin color, very healthy looking. I left hundreds of bullfrogs. Will be going back soon. Plenty for everyone if you don't take too many. I plan to limit myself to 10 frogs, even though you could take 100 if you wanted. Critters, even those you think are so numerous that they will be there forever, have a habit of disappearing completely if everyone goes home with more than they need. Frog gigging is a wonderful hunt and frog legs are quality eating. All white meat, reminds me of ruffed grouse meat. And speaking of ruffed grouse, will be in Montana in Sept and Oct, hunting ruffies along the western edge of Glacier Park. If I have lived a good, honorable life and if there is a Hereafter, I'll wake up in Montana. If, on the other hand, I have lived an evil life, I'll wake up in SoCal.
