Bullet construction, shot placement are key. For my personal preference, when I am using copper I prefer bigger and faster and when using "match" type bullets (ELDM, TMK, etc) going down in size and speed is fine. That said, I love my 9 lb 338 RUM but my shooting it in field positions is not...

You can take the stock shocks to shop like SDG and have them rebuilt / softened. Shock valving / stiffness will dramatically change that feel.

There are more aftermarket upgrades for the defender, but you can't go wrong with either. I have seen both extremely abused and keep going strong. Defender seats might be a little more comfortable but I would say get the one you get a better deal on.
