Man it’s been awfully quiet on here regarding big game. Rough start to A22/D16 this year. My usual consistent spots are a ghost town lately. How’s everyone else doing?

The best 40 acres in SD Co. is nearly void of deer...3 lions have decimated the deer herd in that area...MCC has deer, but not nearly the numbers of years pass...Pretty good amount of forkey's and spikes, but no shooters so far... ;)

It sure seems like the big cats hit them extra hard this year. Between that and the high number of doe tags given every year, I’m starting to wonder if this is sustainable

I broke every SCH rule and went on a monster hike Tuesday. Glassed up a total of 8 does and 1 small forky all in a valley I found last year and wanted to try again. He was a horny little fella and I just couldn’t bring myself to take away his mojo. Plus I was too deep and the thought of packing it out by myself wasn’t too appealing. It was a very bright full moon the night before and I was surprised at how many deer were on their feet in the morning. Every deer I saw was in a dewy patch of fresh grass from the recent rain. At about 945 they all started bedding down and disappeared. Good luck. IMG_2386.jpeg

In some areas it’s been down but in others the future is bright. The areas it’s down for me are areas that get hit hard by rifle hunters so it could just be the pressure that’s pushing them onto private along with the brutal drought before a month ago. In a few different spots I’m still seeing every single doe I run across most times having two fawn, if not they have one. Really good sign for the coming years.

I went out scouting the night before the opener and glassed up 4 legal bucks. Opener was a zoo with guys hiking all over.

I spent last weekend up in D14 trying to get it done but glassed up a dozen bedded doe. With the bright moon, I noticed that they were all bedded and first light. Deer didn't get on their feet until 8:30 or so.
