Scent Control

All our lives we are bombarded with information. And conditions change, scenario changes. We are forever learning new methods , some times good sometimes bad.
This is not not meant to any one in particular. But there is an old saying.
You can not teach an old dog new tricks. Well let tell you it isn't true.
The secret my friends is never stop learning and don't think you know everything. Because no one person does.. once you put the blinders on you stop learning and you get left behind. And I tell you I as stubborn as they come and catch my self
Doing it as well. Times change not always for the better. But either have to go with the flow and swim or sink.
I got out of hunting for a while
Trying to work and just live..
Boy did I get behind and it happens.
As a human being I keep an open mind when presented in a constructive way
Do I get butt hurt sure. I get my ego wacked and I try to take it.
But sometimes I don't..
It's what we are humans..
Now go kill a deer, coyote, rabbit,
Or a turkey..
Next month is dive and I am looking forward to a dove hunt this if I can get enough steel bird shot..

Set all I aside really looking for to dove, quail, & pheasant this year..
Need more bird shot. Just to many obstacles getting in my way..
Hopefully this year I can score on a buck as a bonus..

Larry, a guy could spend a lifetime over thinking hunting, try the truck dude, just make sure you pull the key out and put it in park and step out...an old wise hunter once told me "they aint glued to the pasture" shoot!!

Believe me... my freaking knees and hip-socket WISH that I could do the truck method homey. Really blows 'cause this one particularly long descent, has a road that you and I can't drive down that goes all the down to the bottom. And that area also has several roads that come into it from other directions. All of them... public not allowed on.

With me it's my well my entire worn out body.. lol especially the knees..

Yeah I feel ya, but ain't no thang but a chicken wang, ya feel me? Just means ya gotta take things a little slower. Can't hustle in to the area quite the same as younger dudes. Just gotta leave the house even earlier to get that worm mang!

Ya distance I can go is not as far.
But as you say I take my time and I generally go slow any way..
At the bigining I pop couple of nasaids. For pain. Then at the end of the day I take two more..
But I am no good the next day.
Wore out lol.
I use to go strong for 2-3 days..
After 60 you really slow down.
I really do good at 50, I kept up or they barely kept up with me climbing hills lol

I wish... I have to pop A LOT of NSAIDS. Part of why every dang thing under the sun causes me to have acid.

Currently Celebrex every day... and then Ibuprofen in addition to that as needed. If real bad, I have an Rx of Tylenol #3's the ones with Codeine. I always take some of those along just in case things get real harsh and I need help.

I do fine for the most part. I just notice that if we host or attend a social event, that I need longer afterward for my "check liver light" to turn back off and feel good again. And that I need 2-3 days recovery after my hunts that require long hike-ins and long sits. But, since my job is sedintary... it works out Ok. It gives me time to recup before the next weekend.

Another option I do many times , on Laguna in some places are yellow or purple aromatic plants just take it and crush in your hands in your body, neck , clothes is a natural scent , you smell for hours and that scent is all over the place so deers come in calm . you can do it too and use a natural oil no scent oil and mix with this plants for 24 hours, and you have powerfull scent , from same habitat were deers live.
I try almost 30 diferent scent included deer urine, doe urine , doe on estrous and this one works better .

You'll still smell like a human. Here I'll explain it better. A deer can differentiate between scents, unlike humans. If I put stinky dog crap and a rose in a bag and have you take take a wiff... you'll smell the dog crap. If a deer takes a wiff, the deer will smell the dog crap, the rose, the paper bag, my human scent from handling the bag, the yellow or purple plants next to the bag, the guy that pissed next to the yellow and purple plants the day before.... is the picture more clear.

A police k9 can differentiate between over 100 scents at a time. A deer's nose is better than a police k9. Cover scents don't work on a deer... they work on humans. Try and stay downwind... Ed F

If people don't get it now, they never will.

Downwind, we get it.

P.S. What in the heck makes you think a Humans physiology doesn't differentiate between all the different scents simultaneously? I'm curious to know where you got that idea in your head?

The only difference is our need to have a greater concentration of the particulate matter in the air for detection. That's it.

That being said.. I totally get what you were trying to say/imply. Just wanted to point out and take issue with that one incorrect detail.

I mean.. for example like when you walk into the house from outside and someones been cooking... do you NOT smell all the different spices and herbs and ingredients that were used? Going by what you just stated... a Human would only smell thee strongest from among all the possible smells in that scenario, for myself I can definitely say that's not true. $.02

Because they can't... prove me wrong. I fully expected you to write a dissertation on symantec's... you took what I said out of context and missed the point by focusing on one word. Please add "where humans can differentiate between only a few smells at a time and most often only the strongest like stinky dog crap. You'll never get it... I'm ok with that. Ed F

If a turkey could smell, we'd never get one...…..Just sayin'...….. :joy:

ps...Way back in 2010...Does scent lock work?...http://forums.bowhunting.com/threads/does-scentlok-work.14757/

So what happens when it's cold and Misty, or when it's raining.. or when it's snowing... Does the rain (water) kill the scent ?
How about when crossing a stream or shallow river.. ?
Hot and very windy weather vs perfectly still.
Hi in a deer stand when it's cold vs when it's hot
So does it make difference if you shave and apply after shave lotion?
Apply underarm deodorant.
So washing you clothes in smelly fresh pungent smelly laundry soap.
Make any difference..

I would like to hear from you.

Like Drew said, I miss the old forum. Maybe some of the new folks to this forum should go through the archives and understand the soul and helpfulness that used to exist here and now is beginning to be lost. There are some folks on this forum now who just cannot digest input without a counter input. Take look at other sites, where people just go into totally profane tirades when someone offers a differing opinion or try to justify what they have said. Nothing good comes of it and I personnaly have stopped following them (I'm getting close on this one)and offering info. Reminds me of the karate kid and Mr Miyagi offering wisdom and Danielson fighting his input and then realizing he was wrong and disrespectful.
