Latest update...the length to the lands is 2.30". Barnes (and John) recommends 0.05" off the lands, so I am seating the bullets to 2.25" and heading to the range tomorrow to re-shoot the 62-grain TSX's using CCI 400 primers and Varget, H335 and RL10x. I also made up a few rounds of the load that...
Go to "Guns, Bows and Gear" on Page 3 and look for the posting "Here's 'Lucky!" It shows my AR all painted up. A few posts below the picture is a post that describes just how to do it.
This whole controversy pisses me off...big time! I'm a native La Jollan for one thing. The Children's Pool was given to the children of San Diego by Ellen Browning Scripps so they would have a safe place to swim. It was GIVEN to the CHILDREN, not the f*#@&n' seals! I guess that the original...
Hi Wheels! Yeah, I think we have met a few times. This head was $100. All I did was to cut it off the donor and deliver it to Jon (Randomshot). He and his beetle friends did the rest. Just as an FYI, Jon skins the head and the beetles eat all the meat off the skull. Jon then de-greases the skull...
A buddy and I were out deer hunting on the last day we had to hunt during last year's D-16 season. My buddy had a 7mm and I was shooting my Thompson Center Omega muzzleloader. We had to leave our stand at 10:30 so my buddy could make an appointment on time. Well, at 10:15, this big dog came down...
I was using 450's because they are harder and there is less danger of a "slam fire", but John convinced me to try 400"s. So far, the 450's produce a more accurate load. I will be testing loads with both primers. Thanks
Update...still tweaking the loads. John has ordered a gauge for me to measure the OAL to the rifling so I can play with the OAL to get the best grouping. He's also getting some Barnes 53-grain TSX BT's to try out. The Hornady 53-grain V-max bullets printed 0.55" for me, so I'm hoping the...
I have a discontinued Spitfire that works just fine. There have been several comments about the maximum volume. You really don't need a bunch of decibels under "normal" conditions. Now, in a gale, you might have to crank it up a bit, but that's unusual (to be hunting in a gale). The...
To add to Wheels report, this was the first year we actually started keeping "score" and it has created a huge amount of interest in our members getting out and hunting, which was the main idea in the first place. So far, we are less than two weeks into 2014 and members have given 2 fox and 4...
Call Brian at SoCal Guided Hunts at (951) 522-8002. He might know someone. Second suggestion, call a good taxidermist, like Lyons & O'Haver in San Diego.
Look at the Sit 'n' Spin. I had a Quiver Critter, actually still have it, but had to repair the power switch. I like the Sit 'n' Spin a lot better and it's brought in a bunch of coyotes. It's a compact and very sturdy little unit. It stores compactly (I carry it in my fanny pack), but is easily...
I'm still "tweaking" the loads. John convinced me to switch to the standard primer instead of the magnum. I'm headed for the range on Sunday to let my grandson try out the AR with some R-P bulk FMJ's. I just want the brass so I can work up some loads with CCI 400 primers using H335, Varget and...
I started out with a .222 bolt action, but went to an AR in .223 because of the ability for a quick second shot in case of a bad hit on the first round or multiple targets. I shoot a handloaded Hornady 53-grain V-max bullet. If you don't handload, the factory 53-grain Superformance rounds are...
That doesn't sound like any problem at all. What are you targeting? Read Section 475 (d)...Traps may be used to take nongame birds and nongame mammals only in accordance with the provisions of Section 465.5 of these regulations and sections 3003.1 and 4004 of the Fish and Game Code.
OK, here's the target for the 62-grain TSX using 25.0 grains of Varget...just over 3/4" group at 100 yards. Not quite as good as the 50-grain VG group, but acceptable.
