    Sac Goose Hunt

I've been pretty quiet lately. With a new baby and a toddler my hunting this year has been sparse at best! (One dove hunt, one quail hunt, one quickie 3 day muley, ZERO duck hunting, and two goose hunts in the Sac Valley) I hunted again with Kenny and damn there was a TON of water! seems...

    Jan fishing in Sacramento Area

Any good? I'm planning an annual guys trip to sac for a snow goose hunt and if possible I'd like to turn it into a cast n blast. Does anyone have any experience with hunting any of the rivers in Jan/winter?

Available deer tags in California 8-13-2016

I'm familiar with the Porterville area. I highly doubt there are any pigs in a pistachio orchard. Only thing you will find there are doves and coyotes. For hogs you will have to go east of Porterville into the foothills (private land). My profile pic is of a quail hunt east of Porterville.

KERN PLANS TO OPEN OCTOBER 22: Great News

Kern is top notch. It was the first place I ever duck hunted. I was ruined because my first duck was a drake pintail.

And he forgot that you have to use copious amounts of face paint. Even better if it's applied in a pattern similar to the Ultimate Warrior or Gene Simmons.

    First Aid Kit for Dogs

Steve, I think you touched on something that struck a chord. You said the dog gets the same first aid kit as you do, which made me think "I don't even have one for me!" Considering most of my bird dog work is in the hills, about 2 hours to the nearest hospital, with zero cell service, I've...

    First Aid Kit for Dogs

My dog was limping around a few months ago and the vet prescribed him a pain killer. Knowing he's a bird dog the vet gave me 3x what was needed so I would have some left over for the hunt season.

    First Aid Kit for Dogs

I carry a first aid kit with me in the truck for my hunting partner. I like to keep it simple. I don't want a 30 lbs duffle bag with every piece of equipment for every situation. That being said, I think we can always learn from one another. What works for you and why? Here's a photo of...

    Dove decoy modification

Works like a charm. Added some tubing to keep it from slipping. The tubing was too large so I split it and secured it with a zip tie. Much more durable than the skewer. Thanks GSP .

    Dove decoy modification

I didn't even think of tent stakes. I have some of those too. I'll have to try that out as well

    Dove decoy modification

You could also change the angle of the dove by not inserting the skewer all the way through the decoy and just putting the skewer through the first half of the clip as seen here. And the tension of the clip locks the skewer down tight. .

    Dove decoy modification

So this year I want to put some ground decoys near the water's edge of a canal but all my decoys are clip on kind. I made a 10 second modification and it works. Simply drill a hole through the clip and into the body. Add a BBQ skewer. Wa-la. Obviously the ground needs to be soft. It may...
