Moving Out of So Cal :(

So it looks like I will be moving out of Southern California at the end of the month. My employer is relocating me to Monterey. Anybody ever hunt near there? I was looking into Los Padres, but am uncertain of where to start. Any advice would be appreciated and would make me feel better about...

    Diaphragm Calls

I was watching "The Dog Soldier" on Outdoor network the other day, they actually had Torrey Cook on to demonstrate his product. I know he's a pro, but those MFK calls look legit for sure. They called in several dogs with ease. I will definitely be getting a few. Plus they are only about $12 a pop.

    Ortega Hway?

I've tried it out there fairly recently. It is extremely difficult. The hardest part is getting off trail far enough to be able to hunt, everywhere that you can feasibly walk is considered a trail. Getting off trail consists of very thick bush. The last time I was there we managed to find a spot...

    Miss!

Thanks for the advice, I actually just ordered a Ruger American from Buds gunshop online. I did the 6 months to pay plan, but hopefully I will pay it off much sooner than that! I think the 00 is too big for coyote now too. If I had shot at it with #4 I most likely would have succeeded. Live and...

    Miss!

I used my Carlsons for the buckshot, but switched to a improved cylinder I have for the slugs. Will be picking up the #4 before the next time going out. I did some target shooting at paper targets, but was really inconsistent using 00. It's tough cuz there aren't too many pellets like you said...

    Miss!

I'm planning on using #4 next time! Found it pretty easy online, even found it in 3in. shells.

    Miss!

Went out to the desert this past Sunday for target practice. Practiced from about 40 yards. I used several different loads in my 870, 3 in. 00, 2&3/4 00 and rifled slugs. I was most accurate with the slugs. With a slug I hit the bullseye within 1 or 2 inches every time. Not as much luck with the...

    Ruger American Rifle

Im looking at purchasing one of these but can't decide on the caliber. I am focused on hunting coyote right now, but want something I can use during deer season as well. What would be the best choice? Im considering .243, .270, 7mm-08, .308 or 30-06.

    Miss!

Was using 3in 00 buck from Hornady. The only target practice I'd done before then was at an indoor range using slugs, I've practiced a few times with buckshot since the miss though. I'm thinking I shot low like you said, the dog was standing on a rocky surface and you could see where a few...

    Miss!

I haven't patterned it, I feel like I might have hit it, but maybe just grazed him. In hindsight, I should have waited to see if the dog would turn broadside, but I saw him facing me and when he started lifting his nose and sniffing I was concerned I would be winded.

    Miss!

Finally called in my first coyote, but missed! Got out early a couple weeks ago, set up against a big rock and put the caller about 30 yards out. About 20 minutes into the calling sequence I spot a yote from the corner of my eye, he actually came from behind us, but was far enough away he didn't...

    Yosemite Alternative

So I have a week off work the week of April 6-10. I want to take my family camping, wife wanted to do Yosemite, but there are no open sites available on short notice. What are my chances of securing a walk up site (no reservation) during early April? Or of anyone can recommend an alternative...

    Yotes in Lucerne Valley

Most likely will be heading out there Sunday. I found a huge area of BLM with very little private parcels, should be able to make multiple stands if necessary.

    Yotes in Lucerne Valley

Anybody hunt yotes out near Lucerne Valley/Apple Valley? How about out towards Victorville? Looks like a lot of BLM land out that way. Any tips or general area recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

First Coyote Hunt, No Shots Fired

I have a couple of primos calls, the ki-yi, double cottontail and female whimper, are these decent calls? Ive been hearing good things about a call from Dogbreath. Anybody heard of these?
