Yeah i would agree. 7 PRC is only beneficial if you are going factory gun / factory ammo and want to kill at a long way off. You would appreciate this one!! My cow is on top! It is great to be able to get to them in a truck.

Yeah they have a ton of good evidence over there. Talked with form quite a few times and basically everything I believed was non-evidence based / old school gun writers. I still like bigger / faster calibers for mono's though I think a 7 or 300 is about perfect. You have less margin for error...

Yeah I get what you are saying. I was referring more to elk or deer. For a big brown bear I would feel more comfortable with my 338 too. Though a 6.5 would work, I would feel much better going into that alder patch with 300 gr projectiles.

John you got me down the rabbit hole with your 6.5 saum and the 140 bergers on elk. Lol I personally wouldn’t use the 223 but evidence is there. Being able to spot impacts and quick follow up shots is important. I don’t do that well with my 338.

In a way, most calibers are redundant. Like was previously said, bullets matter more then caliber. ELDX, ELDM, TMK in that 6.5 will kill an elk every single time you put it in its lungs. No need for anything bigger, but that doesn't mean you can't. I have 338 RUM, 3 300 WM, 6.5 PRC, and a 7...

Do you have a brake on it? I have zero concern with the 124 gr pills even on elk. A "field tester" of hammer bullets has killed several buffalo with them out of a 300 RUM. My biggest concern is BC and wind drift. For the hammers, I haven't messed with the HHT but the other pills have shot...

The 168 ELD-M or TMK (serria tipped matchking) will be your best overall for out of state. I've shot their old 152 HH out of my 308 for a while with good results, I'm sure the 154 HHT will be similar. I would even be tempted to look at the 124 HH to see what speeds you can get.
