Special Hunt - CO 3rd season Deer

Well. After several days of really tough hunting dealing with snow and wind it comes down to the last day of the hunt. That morning comes and goes without luck. After lunch we decide to hit it again. I camp out on a small buck and my buddies start coming my way to kill him. Not 1 min from...

Special Hunt - CO 3rd season Deer

Well with a little karma on our side we hit it Sunday am. The wind has also been unpleasant so we stuck to some pockets that were more protected. Not an hour into the hunt we hit a small pocket and find a solid buck. My dad starts ripping the rifle off his back as fast as he can. The buck takes...

Special Hunt - CO 3rd season Deer

Night before season we saw a 28” nice but a little crabby. 12-16” of snow on the ground. Opening AM Saturday we passed a couple small bucks. Got the truck stuck. After several hours of digging we got it free. Upon doing that we heard of a local that killed a cow elk pretty far back so we...

    My 1st Deer Dropped.

Congrats man! Hopefully this comes across the right way, but the hair issue may be more related to your skill (first time) than the actual method used. You'll keep getting better! I love the gutless method and use a mylar blanket to help keep the meat clean. I always have one for safety reasons...

Special Hunt - CO 3rd season Deer

Not for the tag (easy to draw) but for the people, we are about to take off on a pretty cool hunt. Some neighborhood kids that I grew up with 30 years ago, who now live in Ohio, are meeting up with my dad and I to hunt 3rd season deer in CO. My Dad hasn't hunted with them in 20+ years when they...

    Disappointed in the 16ers....

Funny you say that. I walked right up on a bobcat. I was 20' from it before I stopped getting closer. Crouched down just looking at me the whole time. Looked like a young one.

    Disappointed in the 16ers....

Always keep the faith! I got it done the last day of D16 season last year. Same with Javelina.

They most certainly did. I'm in LA for the work at moment. Everything is blue.

    Disappointed in the 16ers....

I'll think about it lol. I never hunt the 16 hard, or anywhere else for that matter. The good news is my standards drop every day so he may be in trouble. Heading out for CO 3rd season next week. I'll post up a report on that.

    Fall turkey

Might be a good time to chase other upland species to knock off the bucket list? I think Chukar numbers have literally doubled. Quail? Others? Maybe @ilovesprig knows.

    Fall turkey

The guys above covered it well. It's somewhat like us having spring and fall deer season where you could also shoot does. Up north? I'd say have at it, they generally have better populations of deer and turkey.

    A22 - So Close

Addicting, isn't it? I've also learned the hard way that getting too close presents its own dangers. Now I try not to get closer than 40.
