I have a very strong opinion on this subject. So I best just watch and read the posts.

I personally love the fact that @TRICER started this thread, we all learn from great conversation and to be honest @NBK I want to hear your perspective.

Is this our first fight? Lol….. Correct shot placement with a bullet that opens is going to kill an animal every time. If you put a modern projectile that opens through both lungs of a big game animal, it is going to die, soon. But what that ACTUALLY means that most people don’t think about is that you have to WAIT for the right shot within the right range for that bullet. I’ll take a guess that of the dozens of animals you watch die, there are probably some shots taken that you or I wouldn’t have chosen to take.

So, if you want the ability to take opportunities that are… sub-optimal, smaller calibers are not the right choice. But those are two different arguments. What’s gonna get it done no matter what? And what will get it done if I do it right?

Even the giant calibers will wound animals if you compromise on enough variables.

Also worth noting that I don’t own anything in the 22 or 25 categories for big game hunting but I’ve been thinking about a 25-06 or equivalent for a while. So this is purely academic for me, not personal.

Hey Kellen !, yea I get it but being the "the old guy in the forum" lately I gotta say what everyone knows so the story stays alive, I've been watching new cartridges be invented and prioclaimed the best since forever. Rememeber the 22-250 or .220 Swift or .222 or 22 Hornet or Heaven forbid the .22 Longrifle ? I enjoy the forum when the converstaion gets infotmative and interesting to learn. P. S. Go get yourself a light to medium weight 25-06, its the last long gun you will need for this part of the world.

All good! I appreciate your perspective. The cartridge “innovation” will never end and is totally unnecessary and 100% marketing nonsense…. but I do believe projectile technology has changed recently and definitely for the better.

No argument, just pick the right diameter, profile , performance charactics and materiel construction and its all good. Oh lets not forget cleaning! I smile when I read this stuff and understand all the challenges the new to the first time reloader/shooter/ hunter folks face. All us "old guys as well as current to the arena should and need to share what we have learned ....

One thing I can tell you for sure is that right now Federal has the entire ammo industry on notice with the high pressure stuff. I am lucky to be friends with people at a lot of the large ammo manufactures now and the high pressure ammo is the next evolution of shooting.

Federals patents are definitely gonna slow down the progression and innovation.

You get higher round capacity in mags with smaller calibers, less powder to burn allowing for shorter barrels, and the same velocities of the magnum calibers. High pressure is where we are going for sure. This is from the horses mouth.

The trick is going to be the functionality of these rounds the bolt stick is real.....
