    San Diego Quail!

@torresmick I have to say I now fully understand why bird dogs are so popular. Would have made my life sooooo much easier. Maybe one day! Thanks everyone! I think I twisted my knee a bit scrambling around some pretty steep terrain, but still one of the best days I've had in a while. Can't wait...

    San Diego Quail!

Apparently my scouting paid off! Spent a lot of days hunting bunnies while looking for quail over the last month or two and only managed to find two places that had a decent amount of birds. Was so excited to find some I even snapped a shitty phone picture. Came back 2 weeks later and managed to...

    2022 Rabbit Season

Those sound super cool. I might have to give that a shot. Christmas ornaments for everyone. Bahahaha that's hilarious about the wife tossing 'em though.

    Hello from Montana 2022

Damn, that looks like fun. Glad you and the dog are okay!

    Summer jackrabbit tacos

@doccherry Got 'em just east of San Diego on some BLM land. Primarily out looking for quail actually, but thought it might be fun to do some hunting along with the scouting. They do get big! This one wasn't huge, but I feel like I've seen some monsters for sure.

    Summer jackrabbit tacos

I saw another recipe that was something like garlic/honey/soy sauce that I want to try. Also gonna give less seasoning in general a shot now that I'm not afraid that they taste bad haha.

    2022 Rabbit Season

I would totally do it, might be kinda fun to dye em like the old school keychains, but I really don't know how to preserve 'em! Just been coyote food thus far.

    Summer jackrabbit tacos

Was pretty wary of this as I have heard almost nothing but bad things about eating jacks. Butchered out the hind legs, forelegs, and saddle. Unfortunately had to trim away a bit of a thigh and one side of the saddle due to stray pellets and meat damage. Made sure to trim off as much fascia as I...

    2022 Rabbit Season

Managed to get my first 2 rabbits ever while out scouting for quail. 1 cottontail and 1 jack. Had some cottontail stew, and jack is brining in preparation for some tacos tonight. Even tanned the cottontail pelt because.... why not? I'm having too much fun!

Ilovesprig, that's a ton of info and I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. I feel much more prepared now! Scout, scout, scout seems like the trending advice and in the following years I'll make sure to knock it out before the season starts. Unfortunately this year I cut it a...

Ahhh, there we go. It's basically a giant marsh in the middle of the desert. More water, better food, more birds? I had read a few of those rules, they do seem much better (especially the un-posted land one)! I gotta admit that's kinda where you lost me though. Heritage fields being fields that...

Man, seeing so much activity on an independent forum like this is so cool. You all seem to know each other. Love it! Bummer to hear about McCain Valley being a bit more developed than I was lead to believe. I'm still definitely going to check it out. It's a nice quick drive for me in South San...

The common thing you both mentioned is just to go do it, I appreciate the encouragement! It's absolutely probable I am overestimating the amount of range shooting I need to do in order to feel at least somewhat proficient haha, but more practice never hurt anyone (only their wallets!) Dove...

Hello everybody! New to the forum, and new to hunting in general. I decided a few months back that I wanted an activity to get me out into the wilderness a bit more and hunting seemed like a great option. The extent of my hunting experience is shooting a pheasant with my uncle when I was like...
