With the new house and the drought I thought I would get the tag over with quick. Skipped the first two days of opener decided to pull a whole bunch of weeds from the front yard of the house. Hunted on sunday of opening weekend over water that I had scouted a week prior with muleys all over it. Slept in till about 7:30 got to the blind by 8:30 to realize I forgot my blind chair. Decided to sit under a Juniper and had two little Forky’s come in. They knew something was up. They didn’t even really give me an opportunity because they were so skittish. About 11 o’clock decided to run home and get my blind chair come back and set up the pop-up blind. Sat there for about three or four hours. Doe came in from about 200 yards blowing the whole way. When she decided to come into the horse corral to get a drink of water I noticed she wasn’t alone, and there was a buck that I thought had a dropper. Needless to say I was shaking. Buck fever was hitting me so hard. I couldn’t even pull my bow back arrow bounced off the blind 10 times and all the deer ran about 10 yards from the water hole shot my shot went under the legs. They all scattered and hopped the Barbwire fence. They were so thirsty they came back in. I gave the buck a whistle he stopped at 42 yards then an arrow blew through him. Called ed up right away then he started to head to me. Lightning began to come down with some rain and i knew i had to start tracking. Followed him up a creek bed to find him about 200 yards piled up and realize he had a broken antler. What a great start to living in arizona. 9 elk points. Bull elk hunt coming up. Stand by.
