So I used my WY elk points for a general tag this year and applied for deer knowing I didn't have enough points. To my surprise I drew the deer tag as well. After doing some research and having no one else to go with on the trip, I decided to go guided on horseback. I got a new position at work, so had to move the deer hunt back to the last week of the season, so I was a little worried about finding a shooter.
Went back for deer season and was able to use my elk tag for archery as well. We hunted 4 days and I dropped my buck on the second day. We got in on.a few elk, but I missed a shot low or hit a branch on a cool bull that had 6 points on one side and a big drop club on his other side. We got to 51 yards on another bull, but never got a clean shot opportunity through the timber. AWESOME experience.
Went back for the last 3 days of elk season. Second day found a group of elk on a peak that kicked out butts getting up it. Found a 5x5 and I was able to put him down. We couldn't get the horses to where I shot the elk, so got a good workout packing it to the horses. Probably one of my most fun hunts I've done
