Jeff, is it worth collecting points at all, or is it better just to go OTC or with a guide? Based on your comments I'm wondering if it's worth paying for points every year in AZ (as a non-resident).

Absolutely worth building points.you have to buy a license to hunt otc so put in for a hunt or buy points every year.put away a little money every year to hire us and you will shoot the trophy of your life..the strip takes max pool for non res,13 points is probably 5-7 points away from max.do you have a hunter ed point? If not I suggest you get it.

Not true. Irvine and I know a guy from San Diego that drew the tag last year.

I know a guy (taxidermist in El Centro) that drew "The Strip" this year.

Baboltin definitely not true,you've been misinformed,I think 12NR draw the strip each year archery and rifle combined,a total 4 different hunts in 2 separate units,,,you can draw 12aw early with 8 or 10 pts if you get lucky,not the best hunt but a couple big bucks hit the dirt every year, 12aw late is much better and fyi 12aw is much better than 12ae and yes I do guide up there
