Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

Does this mean d-16 will be over the counter next year ???? Since it didn't sell out ? ,

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

Another question: this is my first year drawing AO with PD, and I bought an A22 tag as well. Am I correct that I can't get a D16 tag now, but if any are left on August 2nd I could buy one OTC?

You can only have 2 tags...

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

It means that D16 will be a restricted tag next year like A22 was this year. Unfortunately A22 will be a Premium tag again next year.

But won't it mean that we could grab are d-16 tags over the counter and put in for a22 on our second choice, still get a point on our california dream hunts and possibly draw the a22?
Since a22 is a premium hunt in d16 zone.?

This years drawing u could only have either or (d16a22g13).so I asumed it was because d16 sold out last year before July 2 and because it went from restricted to premium this year and a22 is a premium hunt every year.

Correct me if I'm wrong ?

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

Any tag that sells out before July 2nd will be a premium the following year. A22 was a restricted tag this year because it was a premium the previous year. Thus, D16 will be restricted next year because it did not sell out before July 2nd.

The tags cannot go from premium back to being a general hunt the following season.

You can have an A22 and D16 if there are tags available for it after Aug 2.

Clear as mud.... lol

No, thanks Bowhunter. The more discussion, the clearer it gets in my mind.

hi all. first year hutning deer. usually im an upland kinda guy so sorry for the new question.

I see a zone has 54,000 tages. if i get an OTC tag for a zone near paso robles do i need anyting else to hunt deer with rifle in A zone, on public land, of coarse fallowing all normal laws and what not.

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

Yes I already hunt the south side of the condor zone for yotes and bob cat. I use barnes exclusively in all my rifles for hunting for the past few years. Thx. I get out and scout the area I have thx.

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

OK........Here are some of things I carry in my backpack or fanny pack (Favorite)

A good knife........I carry your standard buck knives (normally 2).......Skinning, we use Havalons.

Gloves, if your going to drag your deer out. Not necessary, but saves the hands some.

Good twine/string for you tag and to sew bucks belly up (rocks/dirt into the gut cavity). Small zip ties work too.

I don't carry a lot of water, but some.......Snacks, if your out all day.......

Flagging tape to mark blood trails.

Small bug repellant.....Friggin' small black flies are brutal early in the season.

Small flashlights (I normally have a hand held & one head lamp)...... Matches or lighter.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but this is a good start...... ;D

ps........Did I forget TP......lol

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

I was thinking more of tags or anything else. I've got the whole out door hunting thing down I've been a back packer and into mountaineering as well as an operator I have ll I need and way more fr the trail just don't know exactly what for for legally hunting deer. Thanks.

I'll get the tag fr me and the wife and get a whole bunch more scouting in. That's 1/2 the fun being in the old alone with the wife. I née to get back in shape anyway. I've got a job where I'm in the car most of the day.

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM

upland if you have the back country experience and are used to chasing people who shoot back deer hunting will be a snap.

Read this
https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=84922&inline=1
its a great document and pretty much lays out the program from start to finish, including how to tag and validate and stuff.

navigating BLM land in the central coast is a BITCH! make sure you have quality maps or a app that shows you where to go.

Re: Available California Deer tags as of Thursday 7/3/14 9:00 AM
