Yesterday day 5
We are in bucks as soon as we have light. Our unit was completely burned and it looks like mars. I have never seen coues deer move this much but they are constantly on the go trying to find anything to eat. We get to the finger where the bucks should be and they pop up 200yds away. The kid gets a decent fork in the crosshairs but there was another buck right behind him and rightly he did not pull the trigger.
We glass up some more deer on the other side of the basin going to bed in some thick stuff. Work our way over there kick out a nice shooting pad and set up for the long wait. About an hour later this little spike comes out and starts walking to us on a string, he came from 400yds all the way into 100. The kid let him have it and just like that our hunt was over and 2 bucks were down. The boy packed out the whole deer bone in like a beast. We had opportunities at a lot of bucks missed 2 and got ghosted by a few others. It was an incredible trip with great family and friends. I am a blessed man.
Tomorrow we do thanksgiving at the brothers-in-laws in Tucson then we are off to the river to wrap things up with some bird and dog hunting.
