Barret is in threat of shutting down due to lack of participation so you shouldn't have a problem getting on. There is a gentleman that reached out to the SD chapter of Navhda and offered to mentor anyone wanting to learn the lake. A member took him up on it and limited on his first trip there. Bringing this thread back. I got a few hunt dates with a couple buddies at Barrett. Seeing that the risk is high for losing this opportunity, I invited a few guys who mostly hunt upland and some deer. I’m the most active out of the group but everyone is really excited about the opportunity to hunt Barrett.
3 out of 4 of us have never properly hunted ducks. Any intel on how to setup, decoys, waders/ or not, building the blind etc. any help is much appreciated.
My only experience is on few hunts at private clubs in niland and jump shooting.

I haven't hunted Barrett in a number of years, but if I were to hunt it again, I'd hunt the Hauser Arm and bring a panel blind and brush it up with natural stuff around there. We never had a ton of action there at flyoff, but at 9am or sometime around then they let you shoot from the boats (not while under power) and it turns into a pass shoot on ruddies as they fly from lake arm to arm. If that's your thing then it can be fun. I've heard of guys shooting well on blackjacks at the northern shore spots but I was never that lucky out there.

Barrett is not easy to hunt and is not very traditional when it comes to waterfowling....Deep water, long boat ride, and few ducks of quality....That said, it can be a ton of fun shooting ruddies and ringnecks...Like was mentioned, the back of Hauser is/was the best.

Depth depends on where you're at....As you can see (picture), I'm standing out in the middle....That is in the back of Hauser....Shorelines can be sloped or straight off Adolf.....I'd have a minimum of 6' on your cords...Diver decoys are normally best (cans, redheads, bluebill, ringers)....Looking forward to seeing your pics.
