Maybe someone better connected can shine some light for me. I understand that the Bobcat ban ends on 30 JUN 2025, meaning we can start taking them again on 1 JUL 2025? Am I mistaken?

From my understanding you're mostly right — the current ban on hunting bobcats in California is set to expire on June 30 this year, based on assembly bill 1254. But that doesn’t automatically mean hunting will open back up on July 1st.

The way the law is written, CDFW first needs to put together a full bobcat management plan. Once that’s in place — and only then — the Fish and Game Commission can look at reopening the season in certain areas where it makes sense.

The catch is that the plan depends on funding (last estimate was around $2.5 million), and it's not clear yet whether it’ll be ready by the time the ban ends. So while June 30, 2025 is technically the end date, bobcat hunting might not actually resume right away.

Best bet is to keep an eye on updates from CDFW or the Fish and Game Commission as we get closer.

Bobcat season has never been open in July in California as long as I've been alive... Ed F

Don't expect it to open for another year or two if at all. Doubt they will allocate the funds to do the research to reopen it.
