let’s get back to hunting. If you are shooting an animal with a rifle are you shooting behind or are you shooting through the shoulder. I use to Shoot behind but I have been switching to through the shoulder especially now that the boys are behind the guns. Do you make the same shot with a Berger or similar bullet that you would with a mono?
I have been switching to through the shoulder even though there is more meat damage it gives you a bigger vital area and taking that shoulder out especially on an elk or pig can help to get those tough animals down faster.
Side note everyone loves a throat shot but that’s not on the table for this conversation.

Well..that counts me out..but for the record..ive always found that in front of the shoulder did the job...at least on the 2 forkys ive shot..BUT, if i was to Shoot a large mammal Thru the shoulder, id shoot a hard bullet..

It depends on the shot angle and situation but I've done both...but assuming a perfect broadside shot and I do not need to anchor them I go right behind the shoulder.

With a broadside shot I always shoot behind the shoulder and have never had any issues. But I don’t wait around for that. If I get a good quartering shot I’m sending it and will do my best to salvage what meat I can from the hit shoulder.

Lead right thru both lungs , copper not sure

in front and half way up the neck on the for sure cant miss critters.
I anchored a buck like that 2 years ago. He just disappeared after I pulled the trigger DRT. But that was the only shot I had since he was behind a bush. He never should have looked back but sometimes they cant help themselves.

Also should point out that I switched to through the shoulder after my kid put a massive hole right behind the shoulder on a big bore last year and the thing still tried to eat me. Dang pig left me with some great memories. @Morgan1776 can vouch for this one.

I always shot behind shoulder but I think I’m the shoulder is better with copper. Drops them and minimal meat damage since the bullet doesn’t fragment

Behind the shoulder. They dont go far when they have a hole through their lungs or heart.
