Great trip to Canada this year, despite the restrictions they're putting on us "Foreigners"....The new rules are we can only hunt two 7 day periods and each 7 days can not be the same WMU's...Makes it pretty hard to scout and driving more (& farther) becomes pretty essential...Here's the 1st 7 days......
Our 1st 7 days were right around where we stay...Harvest was very late this year with very few crops being off, but the ones that were, were holding birds...Actually, it made it quite easy to scout...We were also fortunate that we had permission on some of these fields.........
Day 1 was a spec hunt on a Hutterite property...We didn't get limits, but 16 specs and 3 cacklers for Ronnie, Mike, & I wasn't too bad.........
Day 2 was a duck hunt on one of my favorite places and the 2nd place hunted 25 years ago......Lots of mallards and pintail...Limits for the 3 of us. Ronnie, Mike, and I were short order.........
Day 3 was another spec hunt on a friends cut wheat field...Ronnie and Mike hunted from layouts and I basically watched for the 1st 45 minutes from the hedgerow before going and scouting...I got 3 pass shooting and they got limits........
Day 4 was the day that Jacob and Mike flew in...Just a late afternoon hunt and we got 10 specks, 2 snows, and 3 ducks..............
Day 5 was another duck hunt on one of our historically best sloughs...It didn't disappoint this time either...40 ducks, including the 1st widgeon and spoonie of the year............
Day 6 was another for Ronnie, Mike, Jacob, and Mike...I scouted...32 mallards...Jacob and Mike got 3 big honkers in the afternoon too..............
Day 7 was Sunday...So the boys headed home and we took a day off...Well, kinda...Lots of birds to clean and process...................
ps...Mike got a banded mallard from Washington.....
